As a professional house cleaner, when someone calls to have their home cleaned regularly, we always start with a thorough deep cleaning. Often we’re faced with the challenge of taking a home that has been ignored and not cleaned regularly and somehow transforming it into something new.
Well, that’s not possible most of the time. We’re house cleaners, not magicians. You can’t ignore your home and expect a deep cleaning will restore it to its glory days.
So how do you ensure your home can stay clean and looking as new as possible, for as long as possible? Once you’ve taken the time to deep clean your bathroom, how do you keep it clean so you don’t have to go through that torturous chore again and again?
Doing some small but simple tasks each day ensures your bathroom stays delightfully clean instead of turning into a disgusting mess that requires hours to clean.
Small and Simple Daily Tasks to Keep Your Bathroom Clean
1. The Shower
You’re shower and glass doors can take a beating. And, even if you’re using a shower curtain, soap scum and mildew can build up fast.
In order to prevent this from happening and to keep your shower cleaner longer, try wiping down the shower and faucets to prevent soap scum buildup and prevent mineral deposits. Use a terry cloth towel for maximum absorption.
On glass doors, use a squeegee to remove water from the shower stall to prevent water marks and the build-up of soap scum or try my professional cleaning tip to keep the shower and glass doors clean for up to six months!
You can even try one of those sprays that break down the build-up of soap scum to make cleaning easier.
If you use a shower curtain, close the shower curtain so it can air dry and moisture won’t get stuck in the folds creating mold and mildew. Try my simple method for keeping the liner clean.
2. Towels
Make sure you provide enough towel racks or hooks to ensure nobody’s towel ends up on the floor. Have the family drape towels over rods or hooks to dry, and to get more than one use out of your bath towels.
3. Cut Down On moisture
To cut down on moisture and prevent mold and mildew buildup, considering either opening the window to let steam escape, using a fan during and for 30 minutes after a shower or using a dehumidifier.
If mold and mildew continue to be a problem, try this method for removing the mold and mildew and keeping the grout cleaner longer.
4. The Bathtub
Bathtub rings are usually a result of using products with oil in them (think shower gels, baby oil, etc.). Use either a Mr. Clean sponge or a mild abrasive like Soft Soap immediately after the bath. Magic erasers are well, like magic. Here are even more ways to clean with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
5. Vanity
Keeping products and appliances on your counters leads to a messy looking bathroom. Clean out the cabinets and make sure you can store what your family needs in drawers and cabinets. Use organizing methods to make the most of your space. Keep the minimum amount on the vanity so that you can easily wipe the counter top and faucet down with a sanitizing wipe each day. 6. Toilets
One of the easiest ways I keep your toilet clean is by always having a 2000 Flushes tablet in the tank. It cleans and sanitizes with each flush, and keeps the bowl sparkling clean. For a quick clean, I always have sanitizing wipes in the cabinet so I can just wipe up a mess easily and quickly.
Keep a cleaning caddy under the sink with cleaning supplies so you can just grab and wipe. Not sure what to include in your cleaning caddy? Check out these recommendations.
7. Floors
Keep a Swiffer Sweeper in your bathroom closet so you can easily sweep the floor of hair and debris. Do this as often as is necessary to keep your floors cleaner longer. There are many different types to chose from to suit your specific needs. I love the Swiffer Sweeper with the cloth. Kills two birds with one stone if you ask me.
The bathroom gets a lot of traffic in most homes and can get pretty nasty if you don’t keep it tidy between major cleanings.
Doing these small and simple tasks daily will keep your bathroom looking clean, organized and ready for the next person to use.
