June, the official start of summer, means most people will be spending their time out-of-doors. However, with graduations winding down, wedding season gearing up and Father’s Day right around the corner, June can be a very expensive month.
Don’t blow your budget. Here’s what to buy and not buy in June:
What To Buy
1. Lingerie
June means the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale. The sale lasts three to four weeks, so you’ve got plenty of time to grab the bargains. You’ll save a whopping 70% off a variety of items and then later in the sale, the discounts get even bigger.
Don’t shop at VS’s? No worries as other retailers will be offering huge discounts too.
2. Paint
June’s a great month to spruce up your paint colors. You’ll find great bargains on paint, saving around 25% off the price for both interior and exterior paints.
3. Donuts
June 5th is National Donut Day, so be on the lookout for your free donut. Last year, favorite chains like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts gave away free donuts. Be on the lookout as you’re sure to find at least one chain offering a free dodo.
4. Power Tools
You can find some deals to outfit the workshop during the month of June. It’s no coincidence that tools are on sale right before Father’s Day where you can save up to 25%.
5. Kitchen Gadgets
Outdoor kitchen items might be full price in June, but things for the indoor kitchen are on sale. Reason? Think weddings and graduation season. Kitchen items make popular wedding and engagement gifts, and graduating students need these items as they move away, so you save about 30 percent to 35%.
What Not To Buy
1. Outdoor Grills and Patio Furniture
Just like last month, avoid buying that outdoor grill and patio furniture. Grills and patio furniture are at their highest price point, and prices won’t drop until the end of summer around August and September. If you can hold off until then, you’ll score a great deal with savings around 50%.
2. Anything Apple
Apple is busy dreaming up new products and holds its annual World Wide Developers Conference. Typically, new products are launched around this time. Waiting until the back to school sales will save you on Apple products.
If you’re in the market to update your iPhone, you’ll be better off waiting until September when traditionally, Apple pushes out their new lines. August and September will be better months for everything Apple.
3. TV’s
The number one thing you should absolutely avoid buying in June is a new TV. Summer is traditionally a bad month for TV deals and, in fact, you don’t see many deals at all.
4. Air Conditioners and Fans
They are at their peak and rightly so, as the warmer weather hits people, they rush out to replace the AC that died last year. But, if they had purchased the AC or fan at the end of the previous summer, they likely would have saved upwards of 40-50%.
5. Summer Apparel
Of course, as stated last month, try to avoid purchasing summer clothes and shoes. Wait until fourth of July sales and you’ll start to see clothes and shoe prices inching downward. Wait until August and it will be rock bottom pricing.

Be a smart shopper and buy when the deals are hot! Hope you score some great deals this June.
