I bet if I asked you what’s on your to-do-list you could rattle off umpteen tasks that range from updating your website content, to doing your books, to scheduling speaking engagements and a litany of other things.
[tweetthis]The problem with most people’s to-do-lists – they’re filled with tasks that don’t make use of their gifts and talents.[/tweetthis]
Instead, they’re filled with time-consuming, repetitive tasks that would be better done by someone else.
More often than not, our to do list leaves us feeling overwhelmed. There’s so much on them, and so little time to get it all done. The feeling of dread creeps in and soon we feel like we’re barely treading water.
We shut down, grab the remote and the Oreo’s and head off into the haze of avoidance.
So what’s the answer when you feel like the weight of your to do list? How do you get it all done?
It boils down to one word:
Delegate.
Bloggers, business owners, and entrepreneurs just starting out, believe they must do everything themselves. This is such a big mistake. We have a million reasons for why we can’t delegate.
Common objections include:
• I don’t have the cash to pay for assistants
• I don’t know what I would delegate to another person
• It would take me too long to explain what I need done and how to do it
• I am the only person who can do it the way I want it done so I might as well do it myself.
Imagine, if I had used this same thinking when I started my cleaning business. Not only would growth have suffered, but the ability to make more money would have been stalled. Instead, my cleaning business grew from zero to multiple six figure in less than two years because I hired a crew of people.
If you’re resistant to delegating and can relate to the objections I’ve listed, remember, not delegating will mean you won’t reach your goals. Or, you might reach you’re goals but you’ll take forever to get there. That’s the plain and simple fact.
When you spend all your time handling errands, doing administrative tasks, doing housework, and keeping the books, you’re not free to work at achieving the goals that will bring in the money. You don’t have the time. You’re too busy focusing on the small stuff to devote the time and energy that’s needed to achieve the big stuff.
Successful business people know the secret to success is in learning to delegate. [tweetthis]Delegating allows you to leverage your skills so that you can focus on making more money and having more freedom. [/tweetthis]
And isn’t that what you want?
Go take an honest look at how you are spending your time. Really look at it. Where can you delegate? Maybe you can hire a house cleaner, or a bookkeeper to manage the books?
Only you can decide where to delegate.
The important issue is to guard your time and energy and work on those tasks that will grow your business and bring in the income.
