Below are some common problems that coffee makers face and how you can fix them.
Failure of Keurig to heat or not heat enough
For you to achieve optimal results, Keurig’s features must work well to complete the brewing process. However, you may realize that it is not heating or doesn’t get hot enough.
Your coffee maker has to first heat, then pump. However, if it pumps before heating, this might be the result of the premature deactivation of the heating mechanism.
Below is what you can do.
- Unplug the coffee maker then re-plug it again
- Turn it off and on again
- Retune its water reservoir
- Wash out the water in the reservoir by holding down the brew button for seconds or more
- Clean the machine
- Spank your coffee maker (LOL)
- Unplug the coffee maker, then take away the water reservoir. Drip the tray.
- Let the Keurig pour water over the sink. Remove any residue from the machine by slapping its bottom.
- Residues can cause a clogged Keurig. You can then refill, plugin, and try to use it again to confirm if it works.
Power or circuit failure
Your Keurig might fail to turn on because the power button is not working. Below are possible solutions to this problem.
- Make sure that the Keurig is plugged in properly
- Check if the outlet is working well by testing it with something else
- Press the power button and then hold it until the machine lights up. It may display something like “welcome” on its screen.
- Seat the water reservoir properly, as this may power down the machine
- In case the above solutions don’t work, check if the cord has been affixed securely to the Keurig’s body. Do this by unplugging the coffee maker from the wall socket, then check it.
Should there be any loose connection, get help from the customer service.
Coffeemaker keeps shutting off
In case the coffeemaker has any existing failure, it may keep shutting off. Check the placement of magnets as you set up the Keurig.
If your water reservoir was removed, you need to get it back to the coffeemaker so that the contacts can connect with the reservoir’s magnetic contact. Remember that other coffeemakers have the auto-shutoff timer.
Always ensure that it is turned off by reviewing the setting. The manual can guide you on how to do this.
Keurig is stuck on preheating mode
Keurig being stuck on preheating mode is another issue that occurs when you add fresh water to the reservoir. The possible cause of this might be clogging in its water nozzle.
You can open the top as if to be adding another pod then apply the paper clip to reach the obstruction.
You can get rid of the obstacle by using the needle cleaning tool that comes with the Keurig. However, ensure that you power down and unplug the coffee maker before doing this. The water inside might be hot.
Alternatively, you can add hot water in the reservoir to override the process of preheating.
You can as well use a straw to blow or suck the obstacle from the needle configuration. But you need to do this as a last option when the machine has already cooled down.
Keurig coffee isn’t tasty anymore
Have you started noticing some unpleasant vinegar taste on your coffee after preparing it? That can be off-putting, but should not worry you. Below are possible reasons why your coffee doesn’t taste good.
- Vinegar has tainted the internal reservoir. You can correct this by unplugging the machine and then allowing it to cool. Put all the water inside the machine, then refill it.
- Plastic areas of the coffee maker have vinegar aroma and that why they are releasing them to your coffee. Correct this issue by filling the machine with hot, filtered water to remove the vinegar aroma.
- During the descaling process, you might have left a filter full of vinegar in the machine. You can sort this out by replacing all the filters of your Keurig.
Keuring indicates is needs water, yet it is full
It might be confusing when your Keurig indicates that it needs you to add water, yet it’s already full. This problem might be a result of two possible causes.
First of all, the water reservoir could be sending the wrong signals to the coffee maker. Alternatively, you might not be using the right type of water. You need to use filtered water and not distilled water.
The float that rides on top of your water reservoir can get jammed on the bottom. This makes your machine to give an inaccurate reading of the amount of available water.
You can correct this by tapping and shaking the machine gently to release the float.
Keurig isn’t brewing a full cup
Your Keurig might be brewing, but not a full cup. This could be due to its cup being clogged with flavors from other beverages or minerals from drinking water
You can solve this issue by cleaning it with hot water and vinegar thoroughly. You can also wash all parts with soap and warm water that are removable, like the internal filters.
After cleaning it, run hot water several times through the coffee maker.
Having a faulty Keurig can be disappointing. As discussed above, there are various problems your coffee maker might be facing. You need first to find out the cause to know how to fix it.
We hope the above solutions will fix the problem with your machine and make your coffee experience great once again.
