I know this post might seem a bit early, but bear with me and hear me out on this one.
Christmas is less than 150 days away. I don’t know about you, but I strive each year to have a debt-free holiday season. This means looking for the best price on the gifts and accessories I need.
My favorite mode of shopping is online shopping. But online shopping has it’s drawbacks. Well at least it use to have them until I found Honey!
Find The Best Price Online With Honey
Honey is a fantastic way to automatically search for coupon codes and sales whenever you check out online. Honey gives you a button in your browser that scours the web and applies any coupon codes it finds to your shopping cart.
Many of you probably search for coupons on sites like RetailMeNot when you shop online, but the free extension Honey takes it to the next level: With one click, it will search for coupon codes for you, and automatically apply any that work to your check out cart.
Honey has been around for a while and I had never heard about it until the other day.
What caught my eye was that the Honey app now works on Amazon.com – my favorite online shopping portal!
Now if you’re thinking that Amazon already does that, think again. Yes, it sort of does it, but not like the honey app and here’s why.
When you search for something on Amazon, the default price it puts at the top is a bit of a mystery. It takes into account things like lowest price and shipping speed — but it doesn’t always show you the cheapest you can get.
That’s especially true because Amazon connects to a bunch of third-party sellers, which can sometimes have much lower prices, but also are not necessarily eligible for things like Prime shipping.
To get the absolute best price on Amazon, you have to navigate to the list of prices and take stock of your options by factoring in shipping and tax. Tax is a particularly big one, since Amazon doesn’t make it very clear how much tax you’ll pay on an item.
Sometimes you just want to see the best price right away.
Honey’s new button puts a lowest price button right next to the default Amazon one. The price takes everything into account (include shipping and tax). It’s simple and can save you time.
If you have stuff saved in your cart it also lets you know if the item is the best price or if you should go click and see your other options.
I’ll give you an example of how it worked for me.
I wanted to purchase the book Cleaning House. I placed it in my cart and a little bar showed up next to the item indicating there was a better price with a deeper saving. It already took into account tax and shipping so I knew no matter what I would pay less for the item than my first choice.
You can clearly see the difference when the price is the best and when you can find something better.
I’ve done this a few times and have saved a bundle. The book I purchased saved me $3.37. Without the Honey app I would have overpaid for this purchase.
When I think about how much I might have overspent on Amazon.com before the Honey app…well I just can’t think about it. It makes my head hurt.
This application if perfect for the cheapskate in all of us who is searching and searching for the best bargain out there.
